“Union plus free college changed my life…”

After years of raising a family and working for Lee County School District for 27 years, paraprofessional Vivian Hawkins decided to further her education, using the UnionPlus Free College Benefit program.

“I could not have been happier than when I received notice of this opportunity, it has been a giant boost in my self-esteem. I have always desired to attend college but raising a family and limited finances made this only a dream. This benefit is an opportunity of a lifetime.”

Vivian remained on the President’s List every semester with a 4.0 GPA and was invited to become a member of the PHI THETA KAPPA Honor Society. Stetson University has even reached out and offered her the opportunity to come visit their campus to see if she wants to continue working towards her Bachelor’s Degree.

Vivian shared that she believes the benefits of a college degree are countless if one knows how to appreciate the opportunity. She went on to say while there is no guarantee of higher income, it increases opportunity and the feeling of self-accomplishment is priceless.

“I am truly appreciative of this program and in the Summer of 2021, I will graduate with my Associates Degree. It has given me happiness and solidity towards a better life. I owe it all to my membership with FEA and Union Plus free college.”
